Our friends at The West Australian have given WAGS a couple of free plugs in the recent past, for which we are grateful.

One article in tragic circumstances, when the Fremantle Dockers bombed out of the finals in September last year, was classic (see below). The second article on 22nd April this year was highlighting WAGS success, as opposed to the Dockers lack of same (see below).

With the revamp of the FHWA Forums we have added a new Section for "Members Only Forums" within the FHWA Forums.

This new Section is a closed Forum; it is not available to, nor can it be seen by the public or people who are just registered on the website. It is only for use by FHWA members, including Institutional & Affiliate members, who log in to the website. Members must be logged in to view and post to the categories within this section.

Message from the President - It is my pleasure to announce that the WAGS website (wags.org.au) has won the Geoff Riggs Award 2013 from the Federation of Family History Societies (UK).

Congratulations to Chris Loudon, our webmaster, and all the members who help to update the website. WAGS is the winner of the Large Society category as well as being declared Overall Winner.

There is more to this image than meets the eye - keep watching for a special announcement.

Our ever busy Librarian has been gathering the troops.

We now have on display our the newly acquired image of the 11th Battalion A.I.F. on the Great Pyramid of Giza (Cheops). This iconic photo will soon be hanging in the Library, but for the moment is part of the monthly library display table along with some of the military books available in the WAGS Library. See image below...

Scottish Diaspora

2014 is Homecoming Yearjames drummond by moore

A Western Australian contribution to The Scottish Diaspora Tapestry is being submitted by the WAGS Scottish Interest Group (SIG), for James Drummond (1784-1863). This  portrait by Mary Moore hangs in the Agricultural Hall of Fame at the Perth Showgrounds.

James Drummond arrived with Governor Stirling in 1829 at the Swan River Colony on the Parmelia. Drummond was soon following his passion for botany, initially as the Government Naturalist looking after the government gardens until he was officially appointed as the Government Botanist.

Welcome to the Old and the New

Two new Local History collections libraries from both ends of the city have joined WAGS as Associate Members.

To the south in the old port City of Fremantle, the Local History Library has joined WAGS.

To the North, in the new and thriving City of Joondalup, the Local and Family History Library has also joined WAGS.
