1. Volunteering at WAGS and New Member Orientation Sessions

The success of WAGS is very reliant on our volunteers! Are you one of the volunteers? If so, thank you very much.  Or would you like to be a volunteer but don't know what is involved?  Even though we have many volunteers during a variety of jobs at WAGS we can always do with more helpers.

The list of opportunities is endless ... help in the library, membership, morning teas at Orientation Days and special events, writing an article for Western Ancestor, purchasing supplies, helping at PR events. I know many of you have busy lives but it doesn't have to be a huge commitment - whatever time you can spare. Every little bit helps.

To celebrate National Volunteer Week (10-16 May) we are having a Vibrant Volunteer Celebration in Unit 4 on Monday 10 May from 10am - noon. This event is to say a very big thank you to our current volunteers and is also for those people who would like to know more about being a volunteer for WAGS.  See our flyer here .

A light morning tea will be provided.  As WAGS is a member of Volunteering WA , we have some volunteer badges to hand out as well.  We will have the first drawing of a voucher from Gloria Jeans Café for one of our volunteers to enjoy a ‘cuppa on the society'.

If you are coming please email our Volunteer Coordinator, Yvonne Black, via the  Contact Us page for Yvonne, or phone the library (9271 4311) to put your name on the list.  Later that day the lunchtime discussion group (topic of ‘Railways') will be held at noon.  A bargain, two events for one period of travel!  Hope to see you there.

New Member Orientation Days

I would like to encourage all new members to attend our Orientation Sessions at the WAGS Library. These are great opportunities to meet other members and find out how to use the WAGS Library and discover how you can get the most out of your WAGS membership.

Even though these Orientation Sessions are for New Members, if you have been a member for awhile and would like to know what WAGS has to offer, you are welcome to come along.

Each session will include information on how to use the library and catalogue, what resources are available, Bookshop, Special Interest Groups, Education Courses, WAGSnet and lots more. The day starts at 10.00am, there is a break for morning tea, and concludes at 12 noon. You are invited to bring your lunch [tea and coffee provided] and join with others in some lunchtime discussion before moving to the library to do your own research.

The feedback from members that have attended has been very complimentary. Some members had been going to the Library for quite awhile but said they learnt so much in the 2 hours that they would now feel much more confident in using WAGS resources.

Orientation Sessions planned for this year are Saturday 29 May, Tuesday 31 August and Saturday 30 October. New members will receive an invitation through the mail.  You can also check via this link to our Event Calendar.   Please contact the Library (9271 4311) to book a place. Numbers are limited.

Until next time, good luck with your research.
