Diverse Weather at Genealogy Events

The last two major events that WAGS has been involved in have seen quite extreme weather conditions!

Firstly, there was heavy rain when the Shake Your Family Tree day was held at the National Archives on 25th February. Then we had near 40° heat for the Afternoon tea at the East Perth Cemeteries. Regardless of the diverse weather both events were very successful.

The volunteers at the WAGS display at the Shake Your Family Tree day were kept busy answering queries and promoting the benefits of joining WAGS or an Affiliated Society. Thanks to Ian Scott and Karen Tregenza who presented the two WAGS general information talks and to the other helpers - Margaret Hickey, Margaret Pike, Myra Tomkinson, Olive Sampson, Norma Biggs and Keith Fellowes. It was a very successful day and great publicity for WAGS.

On 15th March we held our second 30th Anniversary function, an Afternoon tea at the East Perth Cemeteries. This turned out to be a very popular event resulting in all the tickets being sold and we had a waiting list! Even though it was a very hot (39.8°) day everyone enjoyed themselves and learnt a little more about the cemeteries and some early settlers of WA. National Trust volunteers took members on guided tours of the cemeteries. There was a great deal of interest in the lonely graves display. We were very fortunate to have Yvonne and Kevin Coate available to talk about this research. More information on this event can be found at our 30th Celebrations page.

Have you taken time to explore the website? There is a lot of additional information included. Did you know that there is a "Hints and Tips"  page under in Education & Courses section? This page includes a lot of information on researching your family history and has quite a few forms that can be downloaded. Have a good look around the site and you will soon become familiarized with the new pages and able to find your way around easily.

If you do have any queries or suggestions please contact our web master, Chris, or any of the other people on the Contact Us page.

Until next time, good luck with your research.
