Investigations provide witness statements that vary: "...shot through head, very young, short stature (he was 5'4")...:, "shot left thigh at Deadman's Ridge...bullet entered thigh and passed out through stomach..died afterwards on hospital ship...name & photo in South Australian papers as killed..." "hit in stomach..." "wounded at Dead Man's Ridge..." "right side blown in by a bomb..." Correspondence in files shows His father was killed at work. Declared KIA by Court of Enquiry
