Benefits of FHWA Institutional membership

An Insitutional member may:

  • Include on their letterhead “Institutional Member of FamilyHistoryWA”.  This can assist you when seeking support from local or state funding projects.  Note that this membership class was previously known as Associate Member, and this may still appear on documents.
  • have a dedicated page on the FHWA website
  • advertise events in the FHWA Event Calendar.
  • utilise the FHWA mailing list, Forums and FHWA Blog to advertise their family history events.
  • request a FHWA member to speak at their events.

The Nominated Representative of the Institutional member may:

  • seek for general advice on family history related matters from FHWA.
  • access the Members Only Area (MOA) of the FHWA website.  This section provides quality data, mainly, but not exclusively, of a Western Australian nature.
  • subscribe to the FHWA e-news, the mailing list WAGSNet and Forums, where they can place research queries and view other people’s queries and responses.
  • use the FHWA library and research facilities during normal opening hours on production of a current membership card. The library has dedicated computers with subscriptions for a variety of sites such as Ancestry, British Origins, British Newspapers Archives, Find My Past (UK, Ireland and Australia), The Genealogist and Scotlands People. The Nominated Representative can pre-book these computers to access these websites. (Refer to FHWA website library for complete list of subscription sites.)
  • attend FHWA events at member’s prices. Courses include those for beginners, specialised courses, all day seminars, lunchtime discussion meetings and special events. (see FHWA Events for coming events.)
  • attend any of the FHWA Special Interest Group meetings, most of whom produce regular publications, either online or as a newsletter. The receive copies of Special Interest Group’s newsletters on request. (see Interest Groups for more information)
  • receive a copy of the quarterly journal, Western Ancestor, and can submit reports (including notice of your coming events) for free publication in Western Ancestor.
