The Colonial Secretary’s Inward Correspondence contains many letters from private individuals, either individually or collectively, as well as from Government officials, and contain a number of proclamations and instructions relating to the administration and structure of the Colony.

These letters form Volumes 1 to 40 of the Inward Correspondence, with the exception of Volume 3 which has been lost for many years.

This links above in this page has the transcriptions of actual letters in volumes 1-2 & 4-8

The Letters index page - from 1829 to June 1835 - has been indexed in two ways:

  • Author Index – noting the author and a 200 character summary of the content
  • Names Index – listing all names referred to in the correspondence with a 50 character summary

WAGS acknowledges the tireless work of past President and long time member Graham Bown in compiling these indexes, and thanks Graham for making the indexes available to members via the WAGS website.

We are indebted to the State Records Office of Western Australia for allowing access to the many microfilms of these letters filed under Accession 36.
