TOPIC: History of my house

History of my house 28 Jul 2020 17:29 #2100

Hi
I really need help on this one - how/where can I find the history of my childhood home (long buried under a set of units btw)
In Como - I have located an "older" map and it shows where the property was on the block, but that is it, apart from knowing that it was not an asbestos build.
Is Landgate the only option, and looking for a copy of title?
Over to you my friends
Cheers
Tricia

Hi Trish
I am not sure of the local government areas now or in the past. Before going to Landgate you could try:
- your local council and ask to view rates books and any plans submitted for approval over the years
- does the local council have a local history section?
- Ancestry.com have rates books for Perth City to 1946 - covered South Perth but not sure if it went out to Como
- the State Library have a lot of maps showing land development schemes - many are online which can be searched through the SLWA or Trove sites.
- State library has business directories online at www.slwa.wa.gov.au/explore-discover/wa-heritage where you can track who was at a particular address
Best of luck,
Ian
