Following up on the repository unknown problem, Edwina and I sat down one hot afternoon a few days ago and between us we solved the problem. It resides in the Repository Definition dialogue box in TMG.

I had filled in the Abbreviation and address details, then where a repository was hosted by a person in my database eg myself, it linked the name ID. I did not fill in the Name-Other line as the abbreviation description was enough for my purposes.

Two consequences of this are: in TMG reports the repository is preferentially described by the name in the Name-ID; Second Site uses the Name-Other to describe the repository so if this is not filled in the reference is "Repository unknown".

Solutions: do not link a repository to a name in the TMG database leave it as 0:0; and ensure you fill in the Name-Other with the description that you want to appear in report source lists, in both TMG reports and Second Site.

Another thought: if you do not routinely use Repository reference or citation memo (CD) in a report source sentence you might like to place <> brackets around these terms in the source sentence so that they are excluded if not filled in, thus avoiding 'repository reference unknown' appearing in report source lists.

thank you to Edwina for her collaboration

Robert's posting lead me to the following suggestion.

We get a number of very valuable solutions coming up in meetings and in post's which over time tend to get overlooked or lost.

What about setting up a section of our website area as a repository for useful hints for TMG and Second Site, with each contribution under a topic heading ?

Robert,

I am an apology for the February meeting - I will be in Sydney. However it should still be discussed then.

Following on from our Feb Meeting I have just experimented with aligning a single photo as "left" rather than "centre". The text from the user item (text) following the photo wraps down the side which I think is neater than a single photo with text above and below.

I'll upload my Hiller database in the next hour - check it out.

I have upgraded to Windows 10 and can report the following:

1. Windows 10 is a much better operation system and in general I recommend upgrading to it (it is free). Be prepared for it to take a while doing the upgrade (an hour or more). It is faster and a number of problems I was having using large files in MS Word under Windows 8.1 have disappeared.

2. TMG works fine. Second Site is working EXCEPT I cannot preview the site before I upload it to be published on the hosting computer. The images do not display. However, on the RHS of the Windows 10 browser (which is now called Edge) there is the ability to run it under the old Windows Internet Explorer, and it works perfectly there (also under Mozilla Firefox). I had a one hour teleconference with John Cardinal where he took control of my computer to look at the problem so I think he is on to it.

Other than that, I am very happy with Windows 10.

Regards
Geoff

Thanks Geoff,

It's always reassuring to hear that others have changed over okay.

I'm still running on Windows 7 and guess I'll change over eventually.

Geoff,
has the Second Site problem in Windows 10 you mentioned in your last post been fixed?

I solved the problem by using Mozilla Firefox as my browser. The problem seems to be with the Windows 10 browser called "Edge". Must admit that I haven't tried it recently though.
Otherwise, very happy with Windows 10.
