members, this would be a good way of sharing and solving problems in between meetings if people cant wait until then.

I am having a problem with pedigree charts in that it will not print burial dates instead of death date when there is no death date. It will print baptism dates when there is no birth date, but will not do the same for deaths/burials.
I reported the problem to TMG and the response I got was to download the V8 beta, so I am hopeful the problem is fixed in V8.

Geoff,

The Death Tag is in the Death Group in the Master Tag list and the Burial Tag is in the Burial Group. To solve your problem you need to either move the Burial Tag to the Death group (not sure if you can move a standard tag) or more likely you will have to create a Custom Burial Tag in the Death Group.

You could the use then "Change Event Type" capability of the TMG Utility to change your Std Burial Tags to your new custom Burial Tag.

Hello TMG fans

I am Having trouble with version 8 already. As I am on leave I decided to Upgrade to V8

In using the program I found it has a visible lag when moving from screen to screen and other little things that were a pain. I would have thought that all this stuff would have been fixed up, after all we all waited around shivering with excitment in anticipation of new and ground breaking functionality to the program.
Instead it is Like the peggy lee song "Is that all there is, is that all there is my friend"

After 13 years using this program I would like to get back to doing Family history and not being a test pilot for Wholly Genes
Thats my thrupence worth for tonight zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.......

Michael,

Did the Optimize / Validate File Integrity do the trick. If you haven't done maintenance for a while you sometimes have to run that pair more than once.

I was a bit confused when I saw your email because even my old laptop doesn't have those issues with V8.

using VCF Chart Maker

I have been producing some fairly long charts, running over 8-10 A4 landscaped pages. I have found with some of these that the horizontal sibling joining lines can run across several pages with no person boxes on them, before they get to the next page with boxes on them. in other words the tree is unnecessarily stretched with no data.

I cant work out how to correct this. nudging doesn't do it as that function only makes small moves at a time and is not designed for eliminating one or more pages. the only way I can get around it is to print the lot and throw out the pages with no people on them closing up the tree.

(incidentally these trees are only one page deep in the vertical so it is not a case of making space for generations further down the page)

any ideas?

Robert

Rob,

I have managed to replicate your issue. Presumably you have a few siblings with lots of descendants and some with none. As best I can guess it looks like VCF is attempting a level of symmetry. Might be best to post this one on the Whollygenes forum and get a response from Robin L.

You don't really want to have to edit the vcf too much if you don't want to but if you need to move data more than just a little bit "nudge" is pretty cumbersome.

If you resize your output so you can see it on just a few screens
- scroll over to where you have the issue
- drag your mouse around all the boxes that you want to move
- you can then just move the whole selected regions with your mouse or GROUP it first (which is a bit safer) and then move it.
- you will probably have to either resize the connecting line(s) or delete them and replace them

I am starting on the journey of establishing a web page for my second site family hsitory. when deciding on a domain name there seems to be two options:

name.org.au or name.id.au. can anyone point out the advantage of one over the other? From reading the Google searches on this it seems that org.au is aimed at not for profit organisations and id.au for individuals - like me. Is that other people's view?
