Hi all,

I just want to say thank you for the warm welcome I received at the meeting today. As a first time attendee I was thrilled with the help I received today and came away with a list of websites and venues to check out in my own research.

A big thanks to all who made the day so informative. I look forward to getting to know everyone a little better.

Cheers

Hi Terri,

Thank you for the wonderful feedback. The Scottish group prides itself on being not only helpful but friendly. Although it looks like each meeting is centred on a specific topic, such as yesterday's topic of Railways, the first half of each meeting always includes time for people to share their successes, pass on tips on resources they've found useful, and for new members to tell us a little about where they are researching, and what names they are looking for. There is also usually time at the end of the meeting for new members and visitors to air problems they have with their Scottish research, after which the group suggests solutions or sources which may provide an answer. As you saw yesterday the group can fire questions off pretty quickly! This also happens at the annual problem solving meeting. Here everyone brings along their research problem and the group members offer suggested sources for further research. It's always thoroughly enjoyable, and especially useful for those of us who have been researching for over 30 years as fresh and objective eyes often makes a huge difference.

As you would also have experienced, our members have research interests all over Scotland so first time visitors will usually find someone with experience researching in their own areas of Scotland. This is one of the reasons we get first time visitors to tell us at the beginning of each meeting about their research areas. At tea break you can be sure someone will seek you out for a chat and to find out if you happen to be related to them ... and this happens more frequently than you may think!

Anyway, it was great to meet you and we hope to see you at yesterday's meeting and we hope you can come to many more meetings in the future.

Robyn

Hi all

My demonstration yesterday certainly has attracted some traffic.

Well done!

I endorse Robyn's welcome to the newcomers to the Scottish Special Interest Group.

I'm looking forward to all those queries raised yesterday and that were to be posted here.

And I hope everyone enjoyed reading the WAGS Tales section.
