Local Gallipoli artist sees both sides Gallipoli Beach - Painting by Lev Vykopal

Lev Vykopal is an Australian artist who embarked on a residency on the Gallipoli peninsular in 2013 with the support of the Australian War Memorial, he is now searching for 11th Battalion descendants for portrait studies.

Thanks to Beth for sharing her insights about her father James Rule's experience in this short video by The West Australian's digital editor Kate Ferguson. The West has been most generous in supporting our project and we thank them for their continued support of our 11th Battalion project.

WAGS Welcomes - Bassendean Local Studies Basendean Logo

Bassendean has a long history of Aboriginal settlement, and as one of the earliest areas of European settlement in Perth, it also has a rich history of gentleman farmers, convicts and Pensioner Guards.

WAGS welcomes the Bassendean Local Studies Collection as an Associate member of WAGS.

Due to the extremely high level of internet traffic to our 11th Battalion Cheops website had gone down.

4 New Cemetery data sets

  New July 2014    - 4 new (small) data sets for the above remote Western Australian cemeteries - These tables have been compiled by WAGS volunteer Terri from information contained on signs at the cemeteries. 

Whilst not a large number, the surnames now available in these tables adds an important dimension to the data for remote and lonely pioneer cemeteries in Western Australia.There are 360 surnames in the 4 tables which will assist some people with their genealogy and family history.

The letters are indexed by author and by name, both are now available in our Members Only Area (MOA).
