WAGS wins the Best Website in 2013

Message from the President -

It is my pleasure to announce that the WAGS website (wags.org.au) has won the Geoff Riggs Award 2013 from the Federation of Family History Societies (UK).

Congratulations to Chris Loudon, our webmaster, and all the members who help to update the website.

WAGS is the winner of the Large Society category as well as being declared Overall Winner.

WAGS website was highly commended in 2009, and won the award for best website in 2010. Last year we were able to enter again, and on Saturday we were announced as the winner for 2013.

Congratulations to Chris and everyone concerned. Well done and thank you.

The March-April Issue of Inside History Magazine has an article on WAGS.mag_cover_vol21_wags_feature.jpgThe item, in interview style with WAGS President Liana Fitzpatrick, features the WA historical context
and highlights two of our current projects, the Western Australian Lonely Graves and the Gallipoli
dead from Western Australia.Liana also talks about the records held by WAGS, WAGS website, the most popular items we hold, and
some of the items in our collection that are underutilised.Inside History Magazine is available at most large newsagents, or can be ordered online.

Travelling interstate or overseas and looking to visit any one of the many genealogical societies affiliated with WAGS?Your yellow plastic WAGS card will not be sufficient proof of your current membership status.  
Please ask our Membership Officer for a letter of introduction which includes confirmation that your
membership of WAGS is in good standing.

Do you have a family member who was in the 11th Battalion, and in the Gallipoli campaign?

Chances are he appeared in the Cheops photo of the 11th Battalion taken on 10 Jan 1915.

There are 703 men in this photo, if your soldier was one of them, we want to know. contact us

This includes 25 men identified as having died  from causes associated with their service.

These are updated as information comes to hand.

Launched on March 8th our 11th Battalion A.I.F. - Cheops Pyramid website is attracting attention.

 

New Website: Crimean War Veterans in Western Australia

Diane Oldman well versed on the Crimean War Veterans, has been collecting data about those who made their way to Western Australia.

With a little support from WAGS by way of sponsorship, Diane is providing her information on a new website dedicated to these men.crimeanvets website image1.jpg

The impact on Western Australian history of the Crimean War Veterans has been varied, but in some cases significant.

Diane is looking for additional information, if you have a Crimean War Veteran who came to Western
Australia in your family history, Diane would love to hear from you, email: crimeanvets@wags.org.au
