Proposed new WAGS Genetic Genealogy SIG  WAGS Genetic Genealogy SIG

Do you know who all of your genetic cousins are?

George Darwin (son of Charles) first used a surname study in 1875 to estimate the frequencey of first-cousin marriages, the results showed an incidence of 2.25% to 4.5% in the population of Great Britain.

The use of DNA test results, in combination with good archival practices, is becoming an increasingly important and valuable tool in the genealogist’s toolkit.

A number of WAGS members have expressed interest in forming a Genetic Genealogy Special Interest Group and we are calling for expressions of interest.

The aim is to collaborate and help one another to interpret and apply their DNA results: helping to confirm their family tree lines, break down “walls”, explore other family connections, as well as being involved in international surname projects and encouraging further exploration of DNA tools.

Would you be interested in supporting this proposed group and attend their quarterly meetings?

If so please either;

• add your name to list on the noticeboard in the WAGS Library (Lunch Room), or

• email your name and contact details to Catherine Pearce at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
