A Western Australian contribution to The Scottish Diaspora Tapestry is being submitted by the WAGS Scottish Interest Group (SIG), for James Drummond (1784-1863). This portrait by Mary Moore hangs in the Agricultural Hall of Fame at the Perth Showgrounds.
James Drummond arrived with Governor Stirling in 1829 at the Swan River Colony on the Parmelia. Drummond was soon following his passion for botany, initially as the Government Naturalist looking after the government gardens until he was officially appointed as the Government Botanist.
The WAGS Scottish group has an enthusiastic team of willing embroiders but there is a need for experienced embroiders who could guide the group with some of the more intricate sections. The tapestry pattern is below...
