Description

OUTCAST WOMEN: Offending the Good Order in Perth and Fremantle - 1900-1939.

Dr Leigh Straw will speak on “Perth Criminal Women Working, not working and the Women Police who supervised them”.

Women committing offences against good order in Perth in the final half of the 20th Century were outcast from society as drunks, pests and harlots. Dr Straw explores the ways in which criminal women worked on the streets, lived as vagrants and the many ways in which their path crossed with members of the Women’s Police, whose job it was to supervise ‘wayward’ and ‘fallen women’.
Dr Leigh Straw is an academic, historian and writer and a Senior Lecturer in Australian and Aboriginal Studies at the University Of Notre Dame.
