Join our Volunteers during National Family History Week at the State Library of Western Australia at the Genealogy Centre, 1st Floor of the Alexander Building.

To help us celebrate this event you are invited to join Magement and Members of the Western Australian Genealogical Society Inc. at our Open Day. 

Many of our volunteers will be there to assist you in getting started or to assist you in any way to overcome those research difficulties.

Come along and enjoy the fun, the following events will be held on the premises... 



Unit 4 is our Administration area and Meeting Room

This area will have static displays from our Special Interest Groups. 12 Special Interest Groups operate  within the Society. 

You will find members available to talk to you and discuss any research difficulties you may have.  Members will be there from the following groups:  Convict, Enrolled Pensioner Guards, Irish, London and Home Counties, North of England, Scottish, South Australian, South West European, Swan River Pioneers, and Victorian.



See what our Library holds

Unit 5 contains books and journals that can help your family history research.  During the day the Librarian and a team of volunteers will conduct tours of Unit 5, and a section of Unit 6 which contains hundreds of CD-ROM, microfiche and microfilm.

Volunteers from the Bookshop will be available to discuss with you the books, charts, Genealogy computer programs and other merchandise that are stocked by theSociety's small bookshop.

Who Do You Think You Are? 

The British episodes of this popular TV program includes family histories of identities such as Bill Oddie, Amanda Redman and Jeremy Clarkson.  We will be running some episodes from this series throughout the day.



Unit 6 hold our Research Computers, CD-ROM's, Microfilm and Microfiche

Volunteers from the Computing and Scottish Special Interest Groups will be on hand to conduct limited look-ups for visitorson three of the paid web sites frequently used by researchers.  You will be able to receive help in locating an ancestor on:

Ancestry.com, Findmypast.com and ScotlandsPeople.org.

If we are unable to locate your ancestors on these sites, then suggestions will be given to assist you in focussing on other areas of research which may be helpful.

Members of The Master Genealogist Special Interest Group will also be available to discuss the finer points of this popular family history computer program.
