Exmouth History 31 Oct 2015 15:20 #1215

A new publication has been released on Exmouth History.
The publication is called "A Little America in Western Australia' by Anthony J Barker and Michael L Ondaatje

As someone who grew up in Exmouth arriving in 1974 and leaving in 1989, the title suggests we were under American rule; this was certainly not the case for me or those I knew. Whilst my Dad worked on the US Base and whilst he was at work he was working under American rules and regulations that is where the American control finished. We had Australian Teachers under Australian regulations, Australian shops and Post Office and Police etc. We did not feel America quite the contrary, we made the Americans AUSTRALIAN and many are still close friends even though they are on opposite sides of the globe. Growing up in Exmouth was a privelege and both my brother and I have found memories of our time there
