Final meeting for 2019

Saturday 9 November @ 2.00pm

Meeting Room, unit 4, 48 May Street, Bayswater.

The cave school in the Kimberleys

In 1962, Education Dept. teacher Brian Hassell started the school year in the Kimberleys………………… with a cave for a classroom.

This was no emergency measure, there was no school!

For Aboriginal children on Gogo Station, just south of Fitzroy Crossing, the cave was it.

Using selections from Brian’s slide collection, FHWA member Julie Martin will tell the story of her brother’s three years on Gogo Station and the Ed. Department’s experiment which took place during a time of social upheaval in Western Australia.

We'll also be having a Christmas afternoon tea (please bring a small plate to share) plus help with WA family history brick walls
