Next meeting is on this coming Saturday 12 May, starting at 11am.

A few things planned for this meeting: as well as the normal agenda items, Mike will revisit the new developments in DNA testing and look at Ancestry's new DNA offer; Chris will show us the new members only database of WA BDMs; Alastair will review some new South African online records; Ian will give us some insights into Malware and security.

And there's always time to ask questions and offer opinions.

Hope to see you there.
Cheers
Mike

That's a great story Kevin. Glad you found someone.
At the next CIG meeting (Saturday 10 March, starting at 11am) who knows what other jewels will be displayed that just might help someone break down another brick wall?
Every meeting we have a session where we're constantly looking at new websites, new data that emerges on existing websites and generally helpful websites and tools for genealogists.
At this coming meeting, as well as the above there will be demonstrations of Dropbox and Skype (and similar competitor's products).
All WAGS members welcome, and you don't need to be a nerd to join in!
Cheers
Mike

Last meeting we had our attention drawn to the website MUNDIA where there are family trees posted. After the meeting I entered the name of one of my "brick walls"and low and behold up came a tree with two generations of ancestors of my BW. I contacted the person who had the tree and she has provided me with scanned copies of four wills, plus transcripts, plus all the relevant BDM records and scanned copies of the parish records, plus apprentice records, plus websites which cover the occupations of the people concerned. It has taken me a week to digest all the info.
Many thanks Mike for drawing our attention to the website.

The next meeting of the Computer Interest Group is on this coming Saturday 11 Feb 11am to 1pm at WAGS. There will be a short AGM to elect officers and then a packed agenda of interesting things, including some of the new records that have recently appeared on ancestry and familysearch. Come along if you're in town.
Cheers
Mike

PS Notes from the last meeting are on the website.

Next meeting is Saturday 8 October 2011. As well as the usual agenda items we'll look at the more difficult area of finding descendants rather than ancestors. Bring along your success stories (if you have any!)
Cheers, Mike
