Economically, it seems the best strategy to test with AncestryDNA first and then transfer your data over to Family Tree DNA and My Heritage for free.

However, this is not necessarily always the best approach, as shown in this blog post from Roberta Estes:

That article makes quite a bit of sense, particularly if you are not already paying for an Ancestry subscription.

As I am paying already I find the matching process at Ancestry far more useful than the matches that I get on FamilyTree DNA. If I had 3 times as many FTDNA matches it would not add much value to my research. I find Gedmatch much more useful than FTDNA.
